SOS for refugees - Vigil at Broadmeadows gives hope to those detained

About 50 people attended a peaceful vigil in solidarity with refugees, held outside the immigration detention centre on Camp Road, Broadmeadows in Melbourne's northern suburbs on Wednesday evening, January 18, 2012.

Climate justice fast - hunger striker hospitalised

One of the three people in Canberra who have been on a hunger strike since November 6th, calling for the Copenhagen Treaty to stabilise carbon levels at 350ppm, has been hospitalised after losing 20% of their body weight. The hunger strike is part of a network of hunger strikes happening around the world in the build up to Copenhagen under the banner of the "Climate Justice Fast".

Greek political prisoner nears death on hunger strike

Thirty-one year old Thodoris Iliopoulos is the last prisoner of the December 2008 Greek revolt. He has been in pre-trial detention for more than eight months after his arrest on December 18th in downtown Athens.

Thodoris has been charged with felonies on the sole basis of witness accounts of the two riot police who arrested him; this is the only ’evidence’. He went on hunger strike on July 10 demanding his immediate release, after the renewal of his detention for another six months.
