ETU in Victoria cuts ties with the ALP

In a blow against the corrupt support of the Union movement for the now very much anti-worker ALP, the ETU Victorian Branch has severed ties with the party. It will no longer donate $80,000 a year to the ALP. This is entirely appropriate given the ALP keeping of ABCC and the fact that its Fair Work Act keeps so many provisions of Work Choices in tact.

The debate over uranium mining and the role of nuclear energy in Australia has intensified with a major union launching a campaign against the nuclear industry by banning its members from working in uranium mines, nuclear power stations or any other part of the nuclear fuel cycle.

Two campaigns coincided in the rally held on Tuesday in Lygon Street outside Trades Hall - opposition to legislative changes threatening to water down work safety laws in Victoria, and demands for pay equity for women.
