Early start to Australian bushfires, record temperatures

Just a few days after the Federal election NSW experienced a surprisingly early start to the bushfire season with fires on Sydney's outskirts giving us a taste of things to come. Queensland is also facing severe fire danger with the early onset of high temperatures.

Sam the scam: Sam the Koala is an impostor!

On 12 February a paper was published that for the first time revealed that the stuffed “Sam the Koala” sitting in the National Museum of Victoria is an impostor or fake.

Yes, the original water-drinking Koala is a different animal!

That was a male Koala, later renamed “Bob”, who had been captive as far back as 2006!

Inspired by the impacts of, and the recovery process that followed, the 2009 Victorian bushfires the exhibition ‘Emergence – art on the move’, currently on display in the Atrium at Federation Square, is both sobering and uplifting. It is a testament to the diverse challenges and emotions that confronted bushfire-affected communities in the wake of the fires.
