Opposition to the closures is still growing and further nationwide rallies are planned for June 1 if the policy has not been abandoned. Resistance, particularly Aboriginal resistance, to the planned community closures is indicative of more than just a community responding to a policy that violates basic human rights. It also brings to the surface a resistance that has existed in Australia since 1788, often going unnoticed and unreported, but existing just the same. ... "

The KLC has attacked the plan for lacking detail and said it was insulting to Indigenous people. ... he [Premier Colin Barnett] did say there would be significantly less Aboriginal communities operating at the end of the process. The Kimberley Land Council has attacked the methods of consultation, which the Government expects will start within weeks. ...
