http://thestringer.com.au/much-will-change-the-freedom-summit-is-the-hop...
3 Dec 14: "On October 9, I received a phone call from a senior Narrunga Elder, Tauto Sansbury – from South Australia – who discussed with me his idea to call a continental summit; the bringing together of the legitimate leaders of the First Peoples. He wanted to rebuild the Aboriginal body politic from the comical farce represented by the Indigenous Advisory Council. Mr Sansbury has life-long campaigned for the rights and betterment of his people. In this last year he has despaired more so than ever before “at the attacks on our people and the erosion of what little rights and hopes we had left.” He woke up in the middle of the night with an idea - "the reclamation of the Aboriginal rights struggle"" Gerry Georgatos, a life-long human rights and social justice campaigner, a multi-award winning investigative journalist

New Matilda: "I Will Not Be Swallowed Up Into The Constitution": Rosalie Kunoth-Monks
https://newmatilda.com//2014/12/02/i-will-not-be-swallowed-constitution-...
2 Dec 14: "A 'Freedom Summit' held by Firsts Nations groups has come to an end, with a communiqué calling for self-determination and sovereignty. Amy McQuire reports. The mainstream media remains fixated on constitutional reform, but First Nations from across the country want to talk about something different: sovereignty, land rights and self-determination, and a new summit is hoping to kick-start a movement to reclaim the debate. Arrernte-Alyawarra elder Rosalie Kunoth-Monks says Aboriginal peoples across the country don’t have time to deal with the debate around constitutional recognition when we are fighting for rights." By Amy McQuire, a senior reporter with New Matilda. She's the former editor of Tracker magazine and the National Indigenous Times.

Dear NM reader,
I’ve always had a great respect for New Matilda, especially because it is one of the only media outlets in Australia consistently reporting from a human rights perspective. That’s why I was excited to join NM’s growing team earlier in the year. Aside from my respect for the work of past editors, I was also excited to join the publication because of the desire of new editor Chris Graham to significantly boost coverage of Aboriginal affairs, and ... - Background to Aboriginal Sovereignty Day, Invasion Day, Survival Day and Day of Mourning

Event:  Sun 26 January 2015: various locations in Australia
Sovereignty Day / Invasion Day / Survival Day / Day of Mourning
"Aboriginal people call it ‘Invasion Day’,
‘Day of Mourning’, ‘Survival Day’ or,
since 2006, ‘Aboriginal Sovereignty Day’.
The latter name reflects that all Aboriginal
nations are sovereign and should be united
in the continuous fight for their rights." Creative Spirits
"Australia Day - No time to celebrate:
Australia Day is traditionally the most racist
day of the year for Aboriginal people.
When people celebrate on January 26,
there is no escaping the fact they are celebrating
the day that one race of people invaded another
race of people’s country and took control of
Aboriginal lands and tried to dominate Aboriginal
people. Invasion Day, as it should be called,
celebrates the dispossession of land, culture,
and way of life of Aborigines." Jay McDonald, GLW
