Following our successful Trivia Night in April, the Melbourne Network are again gearing up to test you in all things general knowledge! This time, the night will have a distinct skew towards torture, coinciding with Amnesty International Australia's week of action to #StopTorture.
Contrary to the portrayal in TV shows and films like ‘24’ or ‘Zero Dark Thirty’, torture usually is not used against terror suspects or during war. In fact, Amnesty’s research shows that most victims of torture and other ill-treatment worldwide are not dangerous terrorists. Mostly they’re poor, different, petty criminal suspects, or have dared to disagree with the government. Usually they’ve never carried a bomb or any other weapon.
