21 May 15: "WA’s peak Aboriginal health organisation is seeking an urgent assurance from the Health Minister that core funding for Aboriginal primary health services will be quarantined from budget cuts. This year’s state budget has cut funding for a range of Aboriginal health programs in half, from $30 million a year to an average of $16 million a year over the next three years. The programs, known as the Footprints to Better Health Strategy, aimed to increase access to quality health care, improve services and create jobs for Aboriginal people in the health sector. ... "

20 May 15: "The Aboriginal Health Council of Western Australia has described being hit by a double whammy after finding out about a 50 per cent state budget cut to Indigenous programs. Budget papers show that funding for Aboriginal-run medical services has halved from more than $30 million to less than $16 million. The council's chair Michelle Nelson-Cox said the cut came as a shock. "The disappointing situation is we weren't advised that we were potentially at risk of losing some of our core funding," she said. ... " By David Weber, a senior cross media news reporter in Perth with more than 20 years experience. David has reported on all of the major stories in WA while working with radio current affairs at AM, PM and The World Today. David has won numerous reporting awards, including a United Nations Peace Prize in 2005.
