New Event: Sun 11 May 2014: Footscray, Melbourne, Vic
Linkages, Knots and Graftings - Artist Forum - Megan Evans
Venue: FCAC Roslyn Smorgon Gallery
"My maternal ancestors came to Melbourne from Scotland and
Ireland in 1837, arriving as a part of the British colonial project.
My late husband Les Griggs’s ancestors were from the
‘fighting Gunditjamarra’ from the western district of Victoria.
Les passed away in 1993 as a result of the cumulative effects
of what is now known as the ‘stolen generation’. KELOID is a
project that aims to map these conflicting experiences,
using art to broach the difficulty of confronting personal
responsibility for actions taken in the past by the coloniser.
While this project is deeply personal it aims to resonate with
more universal themes that I assert are fundamental to
Australian identity" - Megan Evans

John Pilger's documentary film, 'Utopia'
Venue: St Timothy's Church
"When I began filming this secret Australia 30 years ago,
a global campaign was under way to end apartheid in South Africa.
Having reported from South Africa, I was struck by the similarity
of white supremacy and the compliance and defensiveness of
liberals. Yet no international opprobrium, no boycotts, disturbed
the surface of "lucky" Australia." John Pilger, Guardian
