Abolish the Indigenous Advisory Council say activists

Indigenous playwright and poet Ken Canning has started an online petition calling for the abolition of Tony Abbott’s Indigenous Advisory Council.

The council is made up of hand picked and unelected members and is headed by Warren Mundine.

Mr Canning says many Indigenous Australians’ have been upset by the Advisory council's silence on issues such as the cuts to the Aboriginal legal aid service.

The council, which also has several members from the corporate world, has been labeled “tokenistic” and called “an insult to Aboriginal Peoples”.
