15 Nov 13: "A motion has been passed unanimously by the Western Australian State Government for a new focus on the suicide epidemic blighting Western Australia. WA has the highest rates of suicide in the nation with the crisis particularly throughout the Kimberley region, but at the same time funding to evidence-based community driven programs to fight suicide have been cut. Kimberley parliamentarian, Kija woman Josie Farrer has been consistently outspoken about the need for more to be done to save lives. 29 Nov 13: "In Western Australia, the high drama of families being tossed on to the streets continues because of the controversial three-strikes-behaviour management policy - another large family about to be evicted. ... there are young children; infants and toddlers. The hard line three-strikes rule introduced only 18 months ago has seen a huge rise in evictions - more than double. Aboriginal families are disproportionately hit, but everyone, Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal, is suffering, and with a significant proportion of those evicted finishing up homeless." 18 Nov 13: "Recently in Western Australia, an 86-year-old grandmother, an Aboriginal lady, was threatened with eviction for non-payment of a state-housing water bill. Her eviction has only been stalled by the intervention of Kimberley parliamentarian, Kija woman Josie Farrer. Recently, two Perth families, once again Aboriginal, with 9 children and 11 children were evicted from their homes. Western Australian State Governments have a bent for mandatory laws – such as the three-strikes behaviour-management policy for state-housing residents.
