* JEANE BICKET, INDYMEDIA AUSTRALIA: WARLPIRI LANGUAGE VULNERABILITY [WARLPIRI IS A NORTHERN TERRITORY ABORIGINAL LANGUAGE.]

- Analysis / Opinion

Indymedia Australia: Warlpiri Language Vulnerability by Jeane Bicket
http://indymedia.org.au/2013/06/24/warlpiri-language-vulnerability-by-je...
24 Jun 13: "In this article I will discuss the social, political and/or economic factors contributing to the endangerment of Warlpiri Language and outline steps that could be taken to maintain it as a minority language. Warlpiri is a minority language spoken by between 2,500 to 3,000 people (http://www.ethnologue.com) (http://www.clc.org.au) in remote communities of Yuendumu, Lajamanu, Willowra and Nyirripi in the western area of the Northern Territory and in Darwin, Katherine, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs. Its endangerment level is graded by Ethnologue at 0- 4 which means that the language is supported by institutions outside the home (http://www.ethnologue.com). However, while AUSTLANG sees it as 'safe', Warlpiri is classified by UNESCO as 'vulnerable' (http:/www.sorosoro.org/en/warlpiri)." By Jeane Bicket

* MICHAEL ANDERSON, SOVEREIGN UNION: GOVERNMENTS ARE ATTEMPTING TO STEAL OUR ORIGINAL SOVEREIGN CITIZENSHIP AND INDEPENDENCE

- Media Release

Michael Anderson, Sovereign Union: Governments are attempting to steal our original sovereign citizenship and independence
http://nationalunitygovernment.org/governments-attempting-to-steal-our-o...
16 Jun 13: "Governments are attempting to steal our original sovereign citizenship and independence by deceit and assimilation by Grant. ...
Michael Anderson said from his home today that research analysis has now shown the real nature of the contemporary Australian Assimilation policies.
"The Policy of Assimilation of the Aboriginal Peoples was first developed by all the Australian States and the Commonwealth Government during the Aboriginal Welfare conference[1] in the same year as the German Final Solution decree was made in 1937 against the Jews.
"During the course of the Canberra meeting, which was designed to develop a solution to 'The Aboriginal Problem', the Western Australian Chief Aboriginal Protector (sic), A.O. Neville, concluded that, 'In 50 years we should forget that there were any Aborigines in this country.' What this man was proposing was the total annihilation of the Aboriginal race. ...

* GEORGE WILLIAMS, INDIGENOUS LAW BULLETIN: DOES CONSTITUTIONAL RECOGNITION NEGATE ABORIGINAL SOVEREIGNTY?

- Analysis / Opinion

Indigenous Law Bulletin: Does Constiutional Recognition negate Aboriginal Sovereignty
http://www.ilc.unsw.edu.au/sites/ilc.unsw.edu.au/files/George%20Williams...
Nov/Dec 2012: "In this article I address the question of whether recognising Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Australian Constitution would negate their claims to sovereignty. ... Aboriginal people have legitimate claims to sovereignty. These claims should be recognised through the making of a treaty. Constitutional reform in no way undermines the ability to make such a treaty. In fact, the current constitutional reform agenda holds out the possibility of opening up the larger conversation that is necessary to achieve other important, long-term changes." * ROBERT MANNE, THE GUARDIAN UK: THE SORRY HISTORY OF AUSTRALIA'S APOLOGY

- Analysis / Opinion

The Guardian UK: The sorry history of Australia's apology
http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2013/may/26/sorry-history-austra...
27 May 13: "The journey towards an understanding of the tragedy inflicted upon Indigenous people has been fraught with ambivalence ... The historical process that eventually led the Australian state to offer an apology to its Indigenous inhabitants was protracted, sometimes bitterly resisted and in several details rather puzzling. To explain the process it is best to begin with two observations. First, settler societies find it peculiarly difficult to apologise to those peoples whose conquest and pacification is the condition of their existence. ... Cairns: Blood baths of the past: Dr Timothy Bottoms talks his new book Conspiracy Of Silence
http://www.cairns.com.au/article/2012/03/17/210681_lifestyle.html
17 Mar 12: "Genocide isn't a word we would like to associate with the history of Cairns, but historian and author Dr Timothy Bottoms says that's exactly what happened, writes Denise Carter. When driving between Woree and Edmonton over Skeleton Creek, a vision of skulls on posts is not likely to be conjured in your mind. Although it might, had you read local author Dr Timothy Bottoms’ upcoming book, Conspiracy of Silence, about the massacres of Aborigines on Queensland’s 19th century frontier. " Denise Carter

12 Jun 13: "A joint statement by Australian not-for-profit groups has been delivered to the United Nations criticising Australia's lack of commitment to its human rights obligations. ... the groups say instead of making progress, Australia has fallen back in key human rights areas. Their statement has raised a number of concerns which range from the treatment of asylum-seekers and refugees to Indigenous rights. The Human Rights Law Centre is one of the signatories to the letter delivered to the UN Human Rights Council. Spokesman Ben Schokman told Zara Zaher the rate of progress since the last review by the U-N two years ago is disappointing."
