Sydney councils back West Papua

Two Sydney councils have decided to raise the banned “Morning Star” flag to commemorate the national day of West Papua.

Marrickville Council and Leichhardt Council will both hoist the West Papuan flag on their town halls on Friday November 30.

The actual West Papuan Flag Day is on December 1st and is often a time of great tension in Papua.

Indonesian forces regularly crackdown on anyone raising the Morning Star flag on December 1st.

Many activists have been tortured and jailed for displaying the flag which is synonymous with the independence movement.
One activist Filep Karma was jailed for 15 years, simply for showing the flag.

He is now regarded as a prisoner of conscience by Amnesty international.

The papuans have been living in papua new guinea for 60 000 years, they also were the original inhabitants of many south east asian islands, it is horrible what the indonesians have done with the help of corrupt institutions such as the united nations.
