National Check in with Martin Ferguson campaign launched

Some very clever climate activists have launched a National Check in with Martin Ferguson campaign on Facebook as a response to the revelations of his spying on climate activists on behalf of the coal and power multinationals - see below

Australian Taxpayers money is being spent to monitor the activities of community climate groups.

This money is a waste. If you are involved in climate or renewables advocacy, why not just report to Martin's office directly? Let him know what you've been up to, how many people you've chatted to about renewable energy, climate and associated topics.

Lets cut out the middle man (ASIO/NOSIC) and give him a heads up, efficiency is important in a free market economy, wasting money on government programs isn't.

Here is a recording of my first attempt -

Also feel free to raise any concerns about

- Energy Security. The reference group for Australia's Energy White paper which is meant to be planning our energy infrastructure for 2030 having only one renewable industry representative,
http://www.ret.gov.au/energy/Documents/ewp/consultation-and-submissions/...
- Energy price hikes due to gas fired electricity roll-out
- Why community groups were encouraged to get out there and communicate the benefits of climate action with the Say Yes campaign and associated funding but get rewarded by being spied on.
- Any other concerns you may have

Jame's call to Attorney General

Just followed up with a call to the Attorney General's office - they were quite helpful - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/23551790/20120111%20call%20to%20attorney%20gener...

This is what I just emailed Marty:

Greetings and Salutations Martin,

Having read in the age http://www.theage.com.au/environment/afp-spies-targeting-green-activists... about your "ordering increased surveillance by federal police intelligence officers of environmental activists who have been protesting peacefully at coal-fired power stations and coal export facilities" I have decided to save taxpayers money and directly inform you, from time to time, of my environmentalist activities.

As you can see below, I am member and/or supporter of many groups that support the uptake of renewable energy as we transition from polluting fossil fuel based energy sources. Over the past six years I have:

i) attended, indeed marshaled for, Walk Against Warming events,
ii) attended two on site rallies that opposed the proposed Anvil Hill open cut coal mine in the Hunter Valley,
iii) organised community events that educate about the destructive affects on the environment that fossil fuel based energy production wreaks,
iv) held meetings at my home which support and encourage action to bring about change in government policy towards supporting renewable energy production,
v) attended courses that reveal, among other things, the facts about the 'externalities' of fossil fuel based energy production and how the Federal Government subsidised it by $12 billion instead of investing that in renewable energy,
vi) participated in organising political forums in which 100% renewable energy is championed,
vii) sustainabilised my home to reduce electricity consumption thereby reducing the profits for energy companies.

The above are just some examples of my efforts to steer the ship of Australia away from the iceberg of self destruction that supporting the continued reliance on fossil fuels will deliver. You are welcome to speak with me directly to confirm my views. :-)
