"Walk With Us"
Aboriginal Elders Call Out to Australian People to Walk with them in their Quest for Justice
http://www.concernedaustralians.com.au/media/WWU_Order_Form.pdf
Aug 2011: "A sequel to the highly regarded "This Is What We Said" (February 2010), "Walk with Us" (August 2011).
Beautifully illustrated, this hard-covered book provides a very important update of the current thinking about the Intervention. The book articulates the views of Aboriginal Elders who gathered in Melbourne in February 2011 as well as those of other leading Australians. Following her visit to meet with Aboriginal elders in Darwin, Navi Pillay, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights expressed her own concerns.
Elders are calling on the 'People of Australia' to walk with them as they seek the return of their basic human rights in their quest for justice."

* RESEARCH REVIEW: 'DOES NEW EVIDENCE FROM NT WOMEN UNDERMINE SUPPOSED BENEFITS OF INCOME MANAGEMENT?'

Crikey: Does new evidence from NT women undermine supposed benefits of income management?
http://www.crikey.com.au/2011/08/19/does-new-evidence-from-nt-women-unde...
19 Aug 11: "The stated intentions of the income management program, as part of the Northern Territory Emergency Response and the more recent revived program, were clearly aimed at better family functioning. Some surveys and statistics are quoted by the government to support the program and its various extensions but these give no statistically valid indicators of recipient benefits. ... " Eva Cox

ABC AM: Claims children are learning welfare dependency
http://www.abc.net.au/am/content/2011/s3298133.htm
20 Aug 11: "The most comprehensive survey of women living under income management in Australia has found that it hasn't changed their spending habits and most want to get off the program. The Equality Rights Alliance collected the responses of more than 180 women of various backgrounds. The majority said they had a bad relationship with Centrelink, and some felt that income management was teaching their children welfare dependency."

20 Aug 11: "THE federal government's controversial income management scheme in the Northern Territory is failing to change what most women buy, their sense of safety, or their ability to look after their families, a new study says. Many women also say they are ashamed and confused about having to use the government-issued BasicsCard. The study, ''Women's experience of income management in the Northern Territory '', is based on a survey of 168 mostly Aboriginal and African women, and focus group discussions with 183 women."

http://www.downunderberlin.de/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&...
"Muckaty Voices by Eleanor Gilbert
The Australian Government under Kevin Rudd promised to carry out a better nuclear waste program than its predecessors. Dumping of nuclear waste was proposed to take place on sacred lands of many Aboriginal communities. What the land means to these peoples is still unknown to many Australians."

Program - Down Under Berlin - Australian Film Festival
http://www.downunderberlin.de/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&...
"Our Generation by Sinem Saban and Damien Curtis
This film looks at the Australian Aboriginal struggle for land, culture and freedom that continues today. The remote Yolngu community features as one of the last remaining culturally strong areas. This film shows a side of Australia that is unknown to many who live outside this vast country. Historians, indigenous leaders, musicians and human rights activists are part of the culture clash that remains in modern Australia."
